Cleveland Guardians option the mustard condiment to minors after 0-50 hot dog race slump

The big leagues are tough. Many a minor leaguer has been called up to the big show only to find out that the pitches are a little faster, the field feels a little bigger, and the lights are a little bit brighter. The condiment mustard mascot of the Cleveland Guardians found that out the hard way recently.

The Guardians announced that Mustard, 0-50 in the hot dog race this season, is being optioned to High-A Lake County.

"Mustard, 17, has struggled at a historic pace this season, failing to secure a victory in any of the first 50 Sugardal Hot Dog races at Progressive Field in 2022 (one race was rained out)," the club wrote in its release. "The tantrum-throwing condiment is being sent down to the Guardians' High-A team -- the Lake County Captains -- to try to get his mental and physical game back to a MLB-caliber level. He is expected to report to the Captians on Monday and race in Tuesday's contest."

For those keeping score, Ketchup and Onion have both won 25 races apiece.

Mustard clearly needs some time down on the farm to regroup and work on some things.
