Cleveland's Aaron Civale to miss time with finger injury

Add the Cleveland Indians to the growing list of MLB clubs dealing with multiple pitching-related injury setbacks in the early days of summer.

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Cleveland manager Terry Francona told reporters ahead of Tuesday's game at the Chicago Cubs that starting right-hander Aaron Civale will be examined by a hand specialist Wednesday and probably land on the injured list because of an issue with the middle finger on his pitching hand that forced him out of Monday's matchup at Chicago before he completed five full innings of work.

"My guess is we will need to make a roster move," Francona explained. "Because of tomorrow's day off, we can let him get looked at first. But I think we're prepared that he's going to miss some time."

Per ESPN stats, Civale began Tuesday leading all of MLB with 10 wins on the season. He is now set to join reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber and Zach Plesac among Cleveland starters who are out of action because of injuries.

Following Monday's 4-0 win at Wrigley Field, Cleveland improved to 40-30 and was two games back of the first-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central standings at the start of the Tuesday night contests.
