SURPRISE, Ariz. — We've seen enough.
Corey Seager appears on track to start the Texas Rangers season opener on March 28 at Globe Life Field.
The Texas Rangers haven't announced anything yet, but all signs point to the Rangers All-Star shortstop being ready.
Seager was put through the paces Monday, including live pitching, groundballs, long tosses, and sprints. None of it fazed him. In fact, he connected on a couple of balls that drew dramatic "ohs" and "ahs" from the fans gathering to watch on the backfields of the Rangers spring training complex.
Seager appears fully recovered from his Jan. 30 sports hernia surgery and should be on the club's 26-man Opening Day roster.
Seager and teammate Josh Jung, who is also recovering from an injury, took turns facing reliever Josh Sborz. Seager chopped the first pitch he saw but later drove a pitch to the right-center gap that bounced over the outfield wall for a ground-rule double. Jung, who is returning from a left calf strain, looks healthy, too. In fact, he was already considered to be on track for Opening Day.
About 30 minutes later, Seager was on a different backfield facing left-handed minor leaguer Robby Ahlstrom. Seager belted a pitch to the left-center gap which hit the wall on a one-hop.
Before his workout was done, Seager took groundballs at shortstop, played long toss, and did some sprinting.
He's expected to fill us in on how his body feels Tuesday morning.
But we all saw it with our own eyes Monday morning. He's good to go.
