Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

On Thursday in a 5-0 loss against the Diamondbacks, Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich left the game with neck discomfort. He was pulled in the fifth inning and didn’t return afterwards. It was a scary sight at first for Brewers’ fans who cannot afford to have their star go down.

What is the Current Status of Yelich?

After the game, Craig Counsell addressed the media and stated that it wasn’t anything major. Yelich is currently listed as day-to-day and he sat out Friday’s contest as well. There hasn’t been an update on his status yet, as he is still on the injury report with the same listing. Along with this, he is also considered questionable for the game tonight, however the lineup hasn’t been released yet. It will likely come down to whether or not his neck is stiff.

Luckily, Yelich won’t be out very long, but his injury is a scare the Brewers don’t need. The Brewers have struggled to score runs and they cannot afford to lose an offensive asset. He’s batting .259 currently and .321 over the last 15 days. There is no doubt Yelich has been a potent part of the offense as of late, which makes his injury concerning.

Since it is day-to-day, there is no real timetable on when he will be back. Rather, it is a matter of how he feels and when he feels ready to come back. If he comes back too early and makes the injury worse, then that may very well end the postseason hopes for the Brewers. Realistically, Yelich can be back as early as tonight or tomorrow.

The Brewers are 3.5 games back from the Phillies and four games back from the Padres for a Wild Card spot. If the Brewers hope to make the playoffs, they will need to play great baseball down the stretch. Hopefully, Yelich can come back to the lineup soon and help propel the team.
