The injured list of the Chicago Cubs keeps on increasing day-by-day. After stars like Seiya Suzuki , Kyle Hendricks , Drew Smyly , Justin Steele and Julian Merryweather were all out sitting on the sidelines due to injuries, Cody Bellinger became the latest Cubs player to find himself on the injured list.

The former National League MVP fractured his ribs while trying to catch the ball in the game against the Houston Astros. A timeline on his return has not been disclosed yet.

The injury took place after he collided with the brick wall of the Wrigley Field. In the top of the fourth inning, he probably forgot about his surroundings while attempting to make a play and ended up crashing against the wall.

Bellinger would continue to stay in the game for a while. After a pop out in the fifth inning, he decided not to push too much and exited the field in the sixth inning. Despite his absence, the Cubs went on to win 7-2 and hand the Astros another big loss.

After the game, the 28-year-old claimed he was experiencing a “dull pain” when he breathed and thought he suffered a minor bruise.

I’m actually happy with where I’m at right now post-adrenaline wearing off. I’m in a good spot right now, it feels.

Cody Bellinger said on Tuesday.

Unfortunately for him, things turned out to be more serious for him. This setback comes at a time after he was getting a little heated at the plate.

Cody Bellinger left ‘bummed’ following rib fracture

After a slow start to the season, Cody Bellinger seemed to be back on track. On Tuesday before getting injured, he extended his hit streak to eight games after he hit a home run in the first inning. This was third home in his previous five games. To head to the injured list at this point was definitely going to be a big blow to him.

According to his coach Craig Counsell , the outfielder has been left “bummed” after learning the results of the CT scans on Wednesday. As per Counsell, Bellinger woke up feeling “good” and was confident that he might not be out for a long time.

He woke up feeling good. He was encouraged by how he woke up feeling. He was like, ‘I think I kind of dodged something,’ was his words, actually. Unfortunately, it just revealed what’s there. He’s bummed out, for sure.

Craig Counsell said as per Jordan Bastian of MLB.com.

The Chicago Cubs are now calling up their No.1 prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong to replace him. This will be the youngster’s second stint with the team. Last season, he took part in 13 games with the team and did not enjoy a great time at the plate as he went 0-for-14 with three walks and two stolen bases.
