Cubs' Jose Quintana to miss season start after dishwashing-related injury

Athletes across different sports have clauses in contracts that prevent them from partaking in dangerous activities. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees famously advertised motorcycles even though he couldn't operate the vehicles per the terms of his team deal.

Perhaps some clubs will add dishwashing to the list of banned pastimes moving forward.

As explained by ESPN , the Chicago Cubs confirmed on Thursday that 31-year-old southpaw Jose Quintana underwent surgery to repair a thumb injury on his throwing hand that he suffered while washing dishes.

The setback isn't too serious, as Quintana should begin throwing again within a couple of weeks. That timeline will, however, likely make him unavailable until early or mid-August depending on his recovery.

The 60-game MLB season is scheduled to begin amid the coronavirus pandemic on July 23.

In 2019, Quintana posted a 13-9 record and a career-worst 4.68 ERA across 31 starts. He was an All-Star in 2016.
