The Chicago Cubs made a series of roster moves on Thursday afternoon. The club transferred Alec Mills to the 60-day injured list.
Mills, who began the season on the injured list (back), threw a bullpen Thursday. His transfer to the 60-day IL is a transactional measure and does not affect his return line.
Whenever Mills is healthy, it will be interesting to see where slots into the Cubs’ pitching staff. He could join the rotation, but then again, maybe he’ll be used as a long reliever? Perhaps manager David Ross decides to go with a six-man rotation? Only time will tell.
David Bote Begins Rehab Start in Iowa
In other Chicago Cubs news, David Bote began his rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Thursday.
Bote, who has been recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, played in just 97 games last season. In four seasons with the Cubs, the third baseman has posted a slash line of .227/.318/.388 with 32 home runs and 138 RBIs.
It’ll be interesting to see what exactly the Cubs do with Bote when he’s healthy. With an overabundance of right-handed hitters on the roster, it will be crucial for him to make the most of his opportunities when he plays. Who knows, maybe he could be a trade piece at the deadline if he’s producing.
With the long list of players set to come off the injured list in the next few weeks, Ross will have his hands full with roster decisions.
