According to Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network, the Chicago Cubs made a couple of roster moves Thursday. Most notably the team has placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the 10-day IL.

Jason Heyward Placed on IL

Heyward was placed on the 10-day IL today with right knee inflammation. On the season so far, Heyward is batting .204 with 1 home run, 10 RBI, 11 walks, and a .556 OPS in 48 games so far this season.

The big question for Heyward among Cubs fans is how long does the veteran outfielder have left until the organization lets him go? It’s no doubt that Heyward has been a huge leader in the Cubs’ clubhouse the past couple of seasons. Could we be seeing the final days of Heyward in a Cubs uniform? In a recent interview on Monday, Cubs manager David Ross commented on Heyward and the value he’s brought to the team.

“There’s a loyalty factor from my standpoint. I love that guy,” Ross said. “I know it’s all about production at the end of the day and that’s what fans see but there’s so much more that he brings to the table.”

Crook Selected from Triple-A Iowa

With the Heyward injury, the Cubs have selected outfielder Narciso Crook from Triple-A Iowa.

Drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 23rd round of the 2013 June Amateur Draft, Crook has put up respectable numbers in his minor league career. In eight minor league seasons, the righty has posted a respectable slash line of .253/.323/.429 with 59 home runs. So far this year with the Iowa Cubs he’s batting .268 with 9 home runs, 27 RBI, 34 runs, and a .885 OPS in 47 games.

Hermosillo Moved to 60-Day IL

In other Cubs news outfielder, Michael Hermosillo has been moved to the 60-day IL. Hermosillo has been sidelined since May 8 with a quadriceps injury. He is eligible to return as early as the middle of July.

So far this season Hermosillo hasn’t had many opportunities to prove himself with the major league club. He has appeared in only 17 games with 35 plate appearances. Last week the righty took batting practice so hopefully, that means a rehab assignment could be in the near future.
