The Chicago Cubs plan to  call up outfielder Alexander Canario from Triple-A Iowa, ESPN's Jesse Rogers reported on Monday. It's unclear as of this writing what the corresponding move will be.

The 23-year-old is yet another of the many young and exciting prospects that the Cubs have been able to stockpile over the last couple of seasons.

As Canario joins the MLB club, it begs the question of whether the other shoe to drop will be a demotion or another player added to the injured list. The Cubs certainly don't need another one of their key contributors missing any time.

Originally acquired from the San Francisco Giants, Canario has impressed at every level of the Cubs' farm system. Those efforts resulted in his first call-up during the 2023 season.

In limited action, the slugger still brought the fireworks to a Cubs team that was knocking on the door of postseason contention. For whatever role Canario might serve, he certainly possesses the talents to be a difference-maker for the North Siders.

In 52 plate appearances for Triple-A Iowa, Canario sports a solid .377 OBP. He also has two home runs to this point of the young 2024 minor-league season.

The Cubs will likely look to get his bat in the lineup with time spent all over the outfield and perhaps as DH occasionally. It will be interesting to see how Canario fares during his second call-up.

If he ends up taking the place of someone going on the injured list, the sky is the limit for Canario to continue showing what he's capable of at the MLB level.
