Cubs top prospect's actress mother becomes real-life MLB mom

The 63-year-old actress played Jenny Heywood — the mother of 12-year-old little leaguer Billy Heywood — in the 1994 film "Little Big League." The preteen suddenly becomes the manager and owner of the Minnesota Twins in the movie after his grandfather (who had been the team's owner) passes away.

The 21-year-old Crow-Armstrong wasn't born until eight years after the movie's release.

He was selected 19th overall in the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft by the New York Mets out of Harvard-Westlake High School but was sent to the Cubs in exchange for shortstop Javier Baez, pitcher Trevor Williams and cash at the 2021 trade deadline.

Crow-Armstrong introduced himself to minor league hurlers in a big way in April, blasting his first Double-A home run (a grand slam) on the 16th pitch of the at-bat. In 34 games with Triple-A Iowa this year he's registered six home runs, 22 RBI and 10 stolen bases to go with a .271/.350/.479 slash line.

Crow-Armstrong is being thrown right into a pennant race with his promotion, as the Cubs hold the second wild-card spot in the National League and are just a few games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central lead. Fortunately for Ashley's son, he'll only be asked to bat and play the field and doesn't have to worry about taking over any managerial or ownership duties.
