David Robertson makes Phillies' NLCS roster after missing NLDS with self-inflicted injury

The Philadelphia Phillies will be getting back a key piece of their bullpen when they open up the NLCS on Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres.

A former World Series champion and one-time All-Star during his time with the New York Yankees, Robertson missed the Phillies' NLDS against the Atlanta Braves after suffering a strained calf during the Wild Card round. Robertson picked up the injury while celebrating reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper's Game 2 home run during the opening round series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 37-year-old reliever was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in early August and in 22 outings with Philadelphia, the righty earned six saves with a 2.70 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings pitched. Robertson's final regular season numbers in 58 appearances during the 2022 campaign included 20 saves, a 2.40 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings pitched.

He has postseason experience with the Yankees (2009-2012, 2017-2018) and Tampa Bay Rays (2021), and hurled one scoreless inning earlier this month during Philadelphia's series against St. Louis. In 34 career playoff games, Robertson has gone 6-0 with 0 saves (but nine games finished) and a 3.03 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 44 strikeouts over 38 2/3 innings pitched.
