Rookie Davis Martin and five relievers held the Padres to one run and Yu Darvish had his six-start winning streak snapped Friday night as the visiting Chicago White Sox scored a 3-1 win in San Diego.

The Padres (86-71) took their third straight loss after the Phillies (84-72) and Brewers (84-73) both won on Friday, tightening the National League wild-card race.

San Diego still has a magic number of three to clinch a wild-card berth, but Philadelphia is now only 1 1/2 games behind the Padres in the race for the No. 2 berth. Milwaukee is a half-game back of the Phillies.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Brandon Drury doubled with one out and scored on Josh Bell's single to center.

The White Sox tied the game when Eloy Jimenez opened the fourth inning with a homer to left off Darvish. It was Jimenez's 16th long ball this season.

Gavin Sheets followed the home run with a double, and he scored on Yoan Moncada's single to put the White Sox ahead 2-1. It was the first time since Aug. 27 that Darvish allowed three hits in an inning.

The White Sox extended the lead to 3-1 in the sixth on a double by Moncada and a RBI single by Andrew Vaughn.

Martin (3-5) allowed a run on six hits and no walks with a career-high eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Joe Kelly, Kendall Graveman, Aaron Bummer and Jimmy Lambert combined to blank San Diego over the next 2 1/3 innings.

Liam Hendricks struck out two in a perfect ninth to record his 35th save. White Sox pitchers struck out 15 Padres while walking two.

Darvish (16-8) gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings. He and three Padres relievers retired 11 straight White Sox hitters to end the game, but the San Diego offense couldn't response.
