We’ve all got skeletons in our closet and, according to former New York Yankees assistant equipment manager Paul Priore, the team has enough to fill all three Yankee Stadiums and, for good measure, the Polo Grounds as well.

Until his dismissal from the team in 1997 (Priore claims he was fired because he revealed he was HIV positive), the author of Abused by the New York Yankees had spent a majority of his life with and around the team. You see, before he was officially an employee of the club, Priore’s dad held a similar role with the team.

According to this review, Priore throws a lot of allegations out there in his 500-plus page tome and if you listen to co-author Gary Toushek…they’re all true.

Some choice (mostly believable) nuggets.

  • Famed team owner George Steinbrenner installed video cameras in the team’s clubhouse in order to spy on his players.
  • New York City cops (while on duty) would gamble with players in the team clubhouse.
  • Yankee employees were trained how to forge autographs for players who refused to sign baseballs.
  • Members of the Yankees had sex with “female stadium employees, security guards and groupies” at Yankees Stadium.

Now, I’m going to go out on a limb and say if anyone told me those things about the Yankees…I would suggest I could see all those things being true.

Then, straight from the book’s website, is this claim:

Two players were once found engaging in homosexual activity in the clubhouse sauna at the end of their first season with the team.

Those two players? Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada.

Apparently, near the end of the 1995 season, Priore walked in on the duo having a sexual encounter in the team steam room and in an effort to keep it quiet…they allowed Priore to perform oral sex on them.

“If these two players wanted him to keep quiet, wouldn’t they have performed oral sex on him?” book reviewer/blogger Bernadette Pasley asks. “Wouldn’t it have been easier for Jeter and Posada to, instead of having a threesome in a car, just deny that anything at all happened? After all, it would have been their word against his. Surely Jeter’s and Posada’s words would be believed over Paul Priore’s.”

All good points.

Either way…I really, really want to read this thing. Seriously.

Are you like me, are you dying to learn more? You can either buy the book, listen to co-author Toushek give you the lowdown or, better yet, listen to Priore himself.
