The Detroit Tigers got a degree of good news on Friday as it was learned that young outfielder Riley Greene's injury isn't quite as bad as originally reported.

Earlier this week, Greene was put on the injured list with a stress fracture in his left fibula.

Tigers reporter Jason Beck provides the better news:

"Also out of today's Tigers medical report: Riley Greene's left fibula injury is described as a stress reaction rather than a stress fracture."

There was no additional word on how that diagnosis changes anything as far as rehab or recovery, but it's still good news nonetheless.

Greene is one of the centerpieces of the Tigers rebuild and has enjoyed a breakout season this year. The 22-year-old and former No. 5 overall pick in the draft is hitting .296 with five home runs, 18 RBI and six stolen bases.

He made his major league debut in 2022 and is a lifetime .268 hitter with 10 home runs. He and Spencer Torkelson make up the future position player core of the organization.

His injury is not the only recent injury for the Tigers, who also lost ace Eduardo Rodriguez to injury on Tuesday.

The Tigers entered play on Friday at 26-28 and 2.5 games out of first place in the American League Central.

At the time of this posting, the Tigers are tied with the Chicago White Sox, 0-0, in the top of the fifth inning.

The two teams will play again on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. ET in Chicago.
