Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson has been named a finalist for a Silver Slugger Award, the league announced Thursday morning.

Torkelson set career-highs across the board in his breakout sophomore season in 2023. The 24-year-old former No. 1 overall pick hit .233 with 141 hits, 34 doubles, 31 home runs, 94 RBI and a .758 OPS.

Joining Torkelson on the shortlist of American League first basemen up for a Silver Slugger are Boston Red Sox rookie Triston Casas, Tampa Bay Rays All-Star Yandy Diaz and Nathaniel Lowe of the Texas Rangers. Lowe won the AL First Base Silver Slugger last season, and he just secured his first World Series ring on Wednesday.

Torkelson ranks first among his position's finalists in home runs and RBI, but third in slugging percentage, last in batting average, last in on-base percentage and last in OPS. His 1.9 oWAR also ranks last in the group.

The Silver Slugger Award winners will be announced on MLB Network at 6 p.m. ET on Nov. 9.
