After taking a 119-mph ground ball off the foot from the bat of Yankees' slugger Giancarlo Stanton, Detroit Tigers pitcher Matt Manning will miss the rest of the season.

Per Tigers' reporter Chris McCosky:

Matt Manning’s season is over. Fractured right foot. Different part of the foot than last time

Manning already spent a significant portion of this season on the injured list with a broken right foot, so this is a devastating end to his year.

It continues a career full of frustration for the young righty.

A first-round pick in the 2016 draft, Manning has thrown just 226.1 major league innings. He's yet to throw above 85.1 in any season and has constantly battled injuries. He made just 12 starts in 2022 and made just 15 this year.

He's not the only Tigers pitcher to battle injuries over the last few years. Detroit has counted on Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize as well, only to see both of them sidelined for significant lengths of time.

The 25-year-old Manning is under team control through the 2027 season so the Tigers still have time to reap the benefits of his tremendous stuff.

Detroit is 63-76 and in third place in the American League Central. They will play the series finale against the New York Yankees on Thursday night in New York.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET as Eduardo Rodriguez pitches against Carlos Rodon.

Rodriguez is 10-7 this season with a 3.11 ERA while Rodon is 2-4 with a 5.70 ERA. It's been a disappointing first year in New York for him.
