Veteran outfielder Dexter Fowler signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays prior to the start of the 2022 season.

However, it appears that he will have to continue searching for opportunities.

Fowler never got a chance with the Blue Jays.

As a result, he has been released per his request.

In three games with Triple-A Buffalo, Fowler hit .417 and drove in three runs.

He spent the 2021 season with the Los Angeles Angels but played all of seven games before tearing his ACL and missing the remainder of the season.

Fowler is now a free agent once again and looking for another opportunity.

What’s Next For Fowler?

Fowler is a guy who has been scratching and clawing to get back to where he once was.

His last successful season came in 2019 with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he hit 19 homers and knocked in 67 runs.

Injuries and inconsistencies have derailed the former All-Star and World Series champion.

But that doesn’t mean another team won’t take a chance on him down the road.

If healthy, Fowler can be a productive bat.

His outfield defense has deteriorated over the last few years, but he could be a viable option as a designated hitter if somebody chooses to pick him up.

Maybe a team like the Cardinals could use him.

Corey Dickerson has disappointed as the main DH option so far, and they need somebody who can DH against righties.

Fowler is a switch hitter, which makes him an attractive option.

If any team takes a chance on him, it would be a low-risk, high-reward type move.

He is obviously towards the end of his career, but he might still have something left to prove.
