After releasing Jose Herrera over the weekend, the Arizona Diamondbacks have officially added Tucker Barnhart to their active roster.

In order to accommodate this addition, Arizona designated 29-year-old RHP Peter Strzelecki for assignment.

Barnhart will serve as the backup to Gabriel Moreno; he originally signed a minor league deal with the D-backs back in January.

Last season with the Cubs, Barnhart played a similar role as he backed up Yan Gomes, appearing in 43 games and posting a .202 batting average along with a 19% caught stealing rate behind the plate.

Prior to his stint with the Cubs, the veteran spent 10 seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, during which he was awarded the Gold Glove twice.

The Diamondbacks’ 2024 season debut is set for Thursday, March 28th, against the Colorado Rockies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM in downtown Phoenix.
