The Arizona Diamondbacks fell to the New York Yankees with a final score of 6-5 in a back-and-forth game that went 11 innings.

Striking first was Arizona with Blaze Alexander’s first career home run in the 2nd inning.

This was followed by a retaliatory two-run blast off the bat of Aaron Judge, which was his first home run of the season.

Then, Ketel Marte answered with a solo shot in the 5th inning to tie the game. No team would score again until extra innings.

On the first pitch delivered in the 10th, newly acquired Alex Verdugo launched a two-run home run into the right-field bleachers to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the 10th, thanks to a dropped throw at 1st base that went off the glove of Anthony Rizzo, the Diamondbacks managed to stay alive with a pair of runs. Corbin Carroll’s infield single with two outs sent the game into the 11th.

However, in the 11th, the Yankees struck for two more runs, which the D-backs were unable to answer.

The game ultimately came to an end with pitcher Scott McGough up to the plate in a bases-loaded, two-out situation. The Diamondbacks had to hand the bat to McGough because they were out of pinch-hitters.

A move that could have been avoided if they had not pinch-hit Jace Peterson for Blaze Alexander in the 9th inning.

As a result of McGough’s strikeout, Merrill Kelly’s solid 7-inning start where he allowed just two earned runs went to waste. The Diamondbacks now hold a 4-3 record as they gear up for their first road series of the season starting on Friday against the Atlanta Braves.
