Diamondbacks OF Tim Locastro tests positive for COVID-19

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed to reporters on Wednesday that outfielder Tim Locastro tested positive for COVID-19.

"He's doing good," Lovullo said of Locastro's status, per Tyler Drake of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. "I got the information last night and I spoke to him this morning. He’s in the protocol and feeling fine. He said he’s feeling no symptoms and sometimes that happens but obviously we’re going to follow this entire protocol throughout this entire process."

Lovullo added that Locastro will be out for at least 10 days unless it's confirmed that he registered a so-called "false positive" test result.

"How he got it? He’s not sure," Lovullo explained. "… You can’t be too careful, those were some of the messages that we relayed to our group today. We have responsibilities when we step away from the ballpark. … We can’t let our guard down."

Across 33 games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 MLB season, Locastro hit .290 with two home runs, seven RBI and four stolen bases. He also recorded 26 hit-by-pitches over the past two seasons.

Arizona catcher Stephen Vogt tested positive for the coronavirus earlier in spring training but has since returned to team activities.
