The Arizona Diamondbacks placed second baseman Ketel Marte on the injured list on Friday, effectively ending his season with six games remaining.

Arizona recalled infielder Buddy Kennedy from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. The team did not disclose why Marte landed on the IL.

Marte, 28, played in 137 games in his eighth season in the big leagues, his sixth with Arizona. He hit .240 with a .321 on-base percentage, a .407 slugging percentage, 12 home runs and 52 RBIs.

Kennedy, a rookie who will turn 24 on Wednesday, appeared in 29 major league games this season from June 17-Aug. 1. He recorded a .225 average, a .289 on-base percentage, a .338 slugging percentage, one home run and 12 RBIs.

In 93 games for Reno this year, Kennedy hit .261/.363/.385 with seven homers and 40 RBIs.

Arizona visits the San Francisco Giants on Friday night to open a three-game weekend series.
