On Sunday, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced the signing of 15-year veteran Elvis Andrus to a minor league contract, which includes an invitation to spring training.

At 35, Andrus boasts an illustrious career that began with the Texas Rangers, where he spent 12 years. The two-time All-Star surpassed the 100-hit mark in each of the first 11 seasons of his career.

Andrus also adds significant speed to the base paths, having recorded at least 20 stolen bases in 10 seasons, with a career-high of 42 stolen bases in 2013.

Last season, Andrus played 112 games for the Chicago White Sox, where he maintained a .251 batting average, stole 12 bases, and achieved an OPS of .662. Andrus played a mix of 2nd base and shortstop with the White Sox.

With valuable postseason experience, Andrus has twice made it to the World Series with the Rangers, although they were narrowly defeated in Game 5 in 2019 and in Game 7 in 2011.

Andrus now aims to secure the role of backup shortstop for the Diamondbacks, offering support behind Geraldo Perdomo.
