Diamondbacks tie all-time record for consecutive road losses

The Arizona Diamondbacks lost 13-7 to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park in the Bay Wednesday, but it wasn't an ordinary loss — it was a historic and soul-crushing defeat.

It was Arizona's 22nd road loss in a row, tying the 1943 Philadelphia Athletics and 1963 New York Mets for the modern-era record for most consecutive losses on the road. To make matters worse, the 20-49 Diamondbacks are in the middle of a 13-game losing streak. Their last win came against the Mets on June 1.

The D-backs got off to a strong start Wednesday night (June 17) with a two-run top of the first, but the hope was short-lived as the Giants put up four in the bottom of the inning — including a three-run bomb by Buster Posey. San Francisco's lead ballooned to 13-2 by the fifth.

It's especially unfortunate that the Diamondbacks have the worst record in MLB (three games worse than the 22-45 Baltimore Orioles) because it prevents these new uniforms from thriving the way they should:

The D-backs and Giants will wrap their four-game series Thursday afternoon (June 18), but then Arizona will host the equally daunting 41-27 defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
