The Arizona Diamondbacks magical season came to an end in Game 5 of the World Series as they suffered a 1-0 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Despite Zac Gallen finally having the postseason start that everybody was waiting for, it was a dreadful night for the D-backs offense.
With runners in scoring position, the Diamondbacks went an abysmal 0-9.
Five hits were all their offense could muster up, and only one came in the final four innings.
Although Zac Gallen held his team in the game as he tossed a no-hitter through six innings, it was only a matter of time before the Rangers’ offense finally broke through.
In the 7th inning, Corey Seager put a stop to Gallen’s no-hitter with a base hit down the left field line that he connected with off the knob of his bat.
Seager would go on to score the first run of the game.
Then, in the 9th, with the Diamondbacks only trailing by one run, the Rangers cracked things open by slashing three straight hits to start the inning.
And finally, serving as a knockout blow, Texas put up a four-spot lead in the top of the ninth inning off closer Paul Sewald.
Marcus Semien closed the door with a two-out, two-run home run.
Of course, it is not the way the Diamondbacks wanted their season to end, but it is also not the way they expected their season to end.
Having won just 84 games during the regular season and barely crawling their way into the playoffs as a Wild Card team, reaching the World Series seemed like an almost impossible task.
Yet, regardless of the odds, they found a way.
Now, they will attempt to build upon this magical season with an electric young core as it truly is only the beginning for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
