After splitting the first four games, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks meet in the rubber match of a rare five-game series at Dodger Stadium.

Thursday marks the final meeting between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks this year. L.A. has taken 13 of 18 matchups thus far and is 48-18 against National League West teams on the year.

Julio Urías takes the mound and looks to continue what has been a stellar 2022 campaign. The left-hander is 17-7 with an NL-best 2.27 ERA, 3.71 FIP and 0.95 WHIP in 158.2 innings over 28 starts.

With the regular season winding down, Urías could once again find himself in the conversation to win the NL Cy Young Award. However he has not put much thought into the possibility yet.

Urías has fared well against the Diamondbacks in his career as he owns a 7-1 record, 1.71 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with 42 strikeouts across 46.2 innings pitched (10 games, seven starts).

Arizona counters with Zac Gallen, who quietly has been one of the NL’s top starting pitchers this season. He enters at 12-3 with a 2.52 ERA, 3.03 FIP and 0.92 WHIP in 164 innings (28 starts).

From Aug. 8 through Sept. 4, Gallen did not allow a run over 44.1 consecutive frames. Over that six-game stretch, he allowed just 16 hits and collected 46 strikeouts against eight walks.

Gallen is 1-2 with a 2.51 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in eight career starts against the Dodgers. He tossed six scoreless innings in his only outing against L.A. this season on April 27.

Mookie Betts is not in the Dodgers lineup due to a planned night off for rest. Betts is expected to start in all three games against the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend.

That moves Trea Turner to the leadoff spot as he looks to extend a hitting streak that is at 18 games. Turner additionally has reached base safely in his last 47 games against the Diamondbacks. It’s good for the longest active streak for a current player against any team.
