Doctor told Brewers SS that freak accident could've been much worse

Nearly two weeks removed from taking a scary hit to the head, Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames revealed the startling revelation one doctor offered following the freak accident.

"He told me right away, it could of been way, way worse," Adames said via Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. "He said, 'You're lucky you've got a really hard head.'"

In Milwaukee's tilt against the San Francisco Giants on May 26, a screaming line drive off the bat of third baseman Brian Anderson hit Adames in the temple as he stood atop the Brewers' dugout.

Remarkably, Adames suffered no fractures and was "alert and responsive" after the frightening impact but was kept at the hospital overnight as a precaution.

Anderson may have been in worse shape than Adames. Anderson told reporters the following day that he'd spoken to Adames, who he said was in "better spirits than I was."

Adames felt "normal" two days after being hit and was back on the field less than a week later, taking batting practice with Brewers' minor league affiliate, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, on June 2.

If Adames' run-in taught him anything, it's that he's loved. The 27-year-old revealed an outpouring of support came his way, even from some he didn't anticipate.

"I didn't know I was loved like that," Adames said. "I was getting a lot of love, a lot of support from former teammates, my teammates here, family, friends — people I wasn't expecting to get texts from. It was really special to see that a lot of people were concerned."
