Dodger Stadium resembles an island amid Tropical Storm Hilary

Photos started filling social media on Sunday night and Monday morning of flooding in part of Southern California.

Among the most stunning images was of Dodger Stadium, which resembled an island.

According to reports, this is the first time a hurricane has made landfall in California in 84 years. The last time a tropical storm made landfall in Southern California was Sept. 25, 1939, according to the National Weather Service.

That was 19 years before the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958.

It was reported on Friday that three MLB games (the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays vs. Los Angeles Angels and Miami Marlins vs. Dodgers) would all be rescheduling their Sunday contests and playing doubleheaders on Saturday instead.

Additionally, the LA Galaxy-Real Salt Lake and LAFC-Colorado Rapids games slated for Sunday night were moved to Oct. 14 and Wednesday respectively.

A host of MLB managers, coaches and players had notable reactions to the historic weather over the weekend.

"I’ve lived here 52 years, I’ve never heard something like this," Angels manager Phil Nevin said, per The San Diego Union-Tribune. "Part of me is like, ‘Wow.’ Part of you is excited to see what goes on with these things, but I’ll be honest, the more I read about and hear about it, I get a little bit nervous, too."

"To be completely honest, I didn’t even know hurricanes were an option out here," Rays pitcher Zach Eflin added. "I didn’t find that out until today. I just pray it will be a tropical storm by the time it hits the land here."

The Dodgers (76-47) won both games over the Marlins on Saturday and have been on a heater in August, winning nine of their last 10 contests and going 17-2 in the month overall. They're just four games behind the Atlanta Braves (80-43) for the best record in baseball.

They just concluded a nine-game homestand and will now try to escape the nasty weather on a six-game road trip that begins on Tuesday night against the Cleveland Guardians. Los Angeles will play the Guardians from Tuesday through Thursday before taking on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park from Friday through Sunday.
