Dodgers All-Star 3B Justin Turner likely done for postseason with hamstring injury

The defending World Series champions are one loss away from playoff elimination, but their All-Star third baseman has already likely played his final game in 2021.

Per ESPN's Tim Keown, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated late Wednesday night that it appeared two-time All-Star and 2017 NLCS MVP Justin Turner had suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The injury occurred as Turner attempted to run out a double-play grounder in the seventh inning of the team's 9-2 loss against the Atlanta Braves that put them in a 3-1 hole of the best-of-seven games series.

"So, I think that'll be it for him," Roberts said.

Keown noted that the typical recovery period for Turner's injury is four to eight weeks, which will be after the 2021 MLB season has ended even if the Dodgers were to come back and make the World Series.

The Dodgers have already been without fellow corner infielder and two-time All-Star Max Muncy - who typically plays first base - who has been out the entire playoffs thus far with an elbow injury, as well as likely future Hall-of-Famer Clayton Kershaw, who hasn't pitched since the end of the regular season because of a forearm/elbow injury.

"I feel bad for Justin," Dodgers outfielder AJ Pollock said. "JT, he's a warrior. You could see him walking off the field. It's a hamstring. I'll let him talk to you about that, but you never want to see your teammate go down."

The Dodgers and Braves play in Game 5 of the NLCS beginning at 8:08 ET on Thursday.
