The Los Angeles Dodgers hired Dontrelle Willis as a special assistant prior to the 2021 season and last year he was among the new SportsNet LA broadcasters.

Willis, along with the likes of Eric Karros, Jessica Mendoza and Tim Neverett, among others, remained part of the SportsNet LA broadcasting team for the 2023 season. Whether working alongside Joe Davis, Neverett or newcomer Stephen Nelson, Willis has provided significant insight as a former MLB pitcher and allowed for his personality to shine through.

Nelson and Willis were in the SportsNet LA booth together on Wednesday night, which saw the Dodgers score late to complete a two-game series sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After signing off from the broadcast at Chase Field, Willis thanked the Dodgers organization and fans for welcoming him into their homes this season as it was his final time in the SportsNet LA booth for 2023. However, Willis then shared an update with news of having more SportsNet LA broadcasts on the horizon.

It’s unclear if Willis will still be part of a rotation of SportsNet LA studio analysts to finish out the regular season once he concludes in-game broadcasts. At minimum, he figures to remain involved with Fox broadcasts of weekly games.

When asked last season about his experience in the Dodgers broadcast booth, Willis told DodgerBlue.com it had been a “dream.”

“I feel truly blessed to be a part of this organization,” Willis continued. “Joe Davis is one of the best game callers in all of sports, so I feel honored to be able to ride his coattail and really cover one of the best sports teams in the world.”

Dontrelle Willis inducted into Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Hall Of Fame

Earlier this year, Willis revealed he received news of a forthcoming induction into the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Hall of Fame.

Over nine MLB seasons, Willis went 72-69 with a 4.17 ERA, 4.22 FIP and 1.43 WHIP in 1,221.2 innings pitched across 205 games (202 starts).
