Andrew Heaney was among the Los Angeles Dodgers free agents when the offseason began, and with his market reportedly heating up, he could potentially sign during the 2022 Winter Meetings in San Diego, California.

After a bounce-back campaign with the Dodgers in which he posted some of the best marks of his career, Heaney has drawn significant interest from teams looking for starting pitching.

The New York Mets are one of his most prominent suitors, who just saw longtime ace Jacob deGrom join the Texas Rangers on a five-year contract. They are also involved in the Justin Verlander sweepstakes and will attempt to sign at least two starting pitchers this offseason.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Heaney interviewed with Mets general manager Billy Eppler, who are connected from their time together with the Los Angeles Angels:

Heaney spent parts of seven seasons in Anaheim, which overlapped with Eppler serving as the Angels’ general manager from 2016-20. The left-hander was traded to the New York Yankees at the deadline in 2021 and struggled before enjoying a resurgence with the Dodgers this past season.

Despite missing some time because of shoulder trouble, Heaney went 4-4 with a 3.10 ERA, 3.75 FIP, 1.09 WHIP and 13.6 strikeouts per nine over 16 games (14 starts). He went on to allow one run over three innings in the postseason.

Clayton Kershaw’s re-signing with Dodgers delayed by physical

Heaney was one of three Dodgers starting pitchers who became free agents, along with Clayton Kershaw and Tyler Anderson. Anderson signed a three-year contract with the Angels but Kershaw reportedly is returning to L.A. on a one-year contract.

The agreement was reached nearly a month ago but the move still has not been made official. That reportedly is due to Kershaw not yet taking his physical.
