The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their road trip with an extra-innings win against the Miami Marlins backed by a 16-hit day from the offense with Mookie Betts accounting for 25% of those.
Although the game was close early with both teams posting zeroes through the first five innings, each offense was finally able to score in the sixth. Chris Taylor opened the scoring for the Dodgers with a sacrifice fly to drive in Will Smith, putting the Dodgers up 1-0.
However, that lead was short-lived as the Marlins pulled ahead on a two-run double off the bat of Joey Wendle in the bottom half of the inning.
The score flipped again in the seventh when Mookie Betts hit a two-run home run to put L.A. up 3-2.
But once again, the Marlins came back in the bottom half of the inning when Miguel Rojas singled to drive in Luke Williams, tying the game at three runs a piece. Miami then took a 4-3 lead with another hit from Wendle that allowed JJ Bleday to score.
That lead remained until the ninth inning when Betts blasted a one-out solo homer to tie the game. With the homer, he additionally passed Alfonso Soriano for the most multi-home run games out of the leadoff spot in MLB history with 20.
Justin Turner then gave L.A. the lead once again with a bases-loaded single to drive in Freddie Freeman, making the score 5-4. David Price was called on to close out the game as Evan Phillips and Craig Kimbrel had already been used, but he promptly served up a homer to Peyton Burdick that sent the game to extra innings.
In the top of the 10th, Betts continued his hot hitting with a double that drove in Chris Taylor to give the Dodgers another lead. Trea Turner then added some insurance with an RBI single and Freeman followed with a double to put the Dodgers up 8-5.
Just for good measure, Max Muncy added a double of his own, which allowed Turner and Freeman to score and put the game out of reach for the Marlins. In the Marlins half of the inning, JJ Bleday doubled to cut the Dodgers’ lead to 10-6, but they were unable to add on to their run totals before Burdick grounded out to end the game.

Following their win, the Dodgers have a .667 winning percentage on the road this season, which trails only the 2020 Dodgers (.733) and 1952 Brooklyn (.680) for best road winning percentage in franchise history.
During the live-ball era (since 1920), only four teams have posted a winning percentage of .700 or higher on the road: 2020 Dodgers; 1939 New York Yankees, .730; 2001 Seattle Mariners, .728; and 2018 Houston Astros, .704.
