Dodgers place Mookie Betts on injured list with hip inflammation

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed star outfielder Mookie Betts on the injured list with hip inflammation, according to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.

Betts left in the seventh inning of L.A.'s 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on July 17 with what the team called right hip irritation. After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Betts had been dealing with a hip issue for most of the 2021 season.

The 28-year-old is in his second season with the Dodgers, hitting .270/.374/.502 with 14 home runs and 40 RBI in 82 games. He earned his fifth All-Star selection this year but didn't play in the game due to injury.

In addition to Betts, Corey Seager and Gavin Lux are also on the injured list, and Cody Bellinger is dealing with a hamstring issue.

The Dodgers are second in the NL West with a 60-40 record, just two games behind the division-leading San Francisco Giants. Despite the injuries to several key players, the Dodgers' primary focus at the trade deadline is expected to be pitching.
