The Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed Tony Wolters to a Minor League contract and assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Wolters was designated for assignment on Aug. 21 in order to activate Austin Barnes from the family emergency list. The 30-year-old was subsequently released from the organization after he went unclaimed on waivers.

Wolters had his contract selected by the Dodgers earlier this month when Barnes was placed on the family emergency list prior to the series opener against the Kansas City Royals.

It marked Wolters’ first time back in the Majors since playing with the Chicago Cubs last season. He originally signed with the Dodgers on a Minor League contract last August after getting released from the Cubs organization.

Wolters went a combined 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in two games during his brief time in L.A. The veteran catcher is hitting .216/.311/.269 with seven doubles and 24 RBI in 50 games for the OKC Dodgers this season.

Wolters was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the third round of the 2013 MLB Draft but he would go on to make his MLB debut with the Colorado Rockies, appearing in 391 games with them from 2016-2020.

Dodgers release Báez

In addition to designating Wolters for assignment, the Dodgers also released Pedro Báez.

Báez was originally signed to a Minor League contract in May and reported to their Arizona Complex League team. He had previously been designated for assignment by the Houston Astros on April 26 and released after going unclaimed on waivers.

Báez allowed nine runs in 5.2 innings during his stint in OKC. He gave up six runs in 2.1 innings while with the Astros this year.

The stint represented Báez’s second with the Dodgers, who he pitched for across six seasons before joining the Astros.
