Los Angeles Dodgers reporter David Vassegh underwent surgery Monday on his fractured right wrist that was sustained after going down Bernie Brewer’s slide at American Family Field last week. Vassegh additionally suffered a crack in six ribs.

The operation was performed by Dr. Steven Shin at the Kerlan-Jobe Surgery Center in Los Angeles. The procedure involved putting a plate in Vassegh’s right wrist and will prevent him from joining the Dodgers on their seven-game road trip to Miami and New York.

However, the “Dodger Talk” host will continue with his duties on AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio during that time. Vassegh told DodgerBlue.com he will resume in-person coverage of the Dodgers when a homestand begins Friday, Sept. 2.

Dr. Shin specializes in hand surgery and has operated on several professional athletes, including Russell Wilson, Alex Kirilloff, Mark Canha, Drew Brees, Mike Trout, Stephen Curry and Bam Adebayo.

Vassegh has yet to miss covering a Dodgers game since his slide down Bernie’s Chalet went viral. Vassegh conducted a pregame interview with Justin Turner for SportsNet LA prior to getting his injuries checked on, and joined Joe Davis Nomar Garciaparra for the broadcast after having a cast put on.

Bernie Brewer’s slide has been in place since 1973. There was an interruption in 1984 when the Brewers rebuilt the outfield bleachers and replaced the chalet with a sound tower. However, the mascot and slide returned in 1993.

Visitors to American Family Field can purchase an experience to go down Bernie’s Slide up to five times. The Brewers’ mascot uses it whenever the team hits a home run.

Dodgers players offer support to Vassegh

While Vassegh has been the subject of countless jokes since his ill-fated slide, Turner, Mookie Betts and others have wished him well and expressed concern . The night of the incident, Austin Barnes said the Dodgers’ win was dedicated to Vassegh.
