The Baltimore Orioles claimed Jake Reed off waivers after he was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers. That came as a corresponding roster move to Blake Treinen being activated off the 60-day injured list last Friday.

Reed joined the Dodgers this season when they claimed him off waivers from the New York Mets. He was recalled for a second time early last week and converted his first career save, which fittingly came against the Mets. That made for an emotional moment that the 29-year-old said rivaled making his MLB debut.

Overall, Reed had a 1.93 ERA and 1.50 WHIP to go along with the one save across five appearances for the Dodgers this season. The stint marked his second with the team. Reed first joined the organization last season on a Minor League contract after being DFA’d and released by the Los Angeles Angels.

Reed pitched to a 3.38 ERA over six games for the Dodgers in 2021. He was designated for assignment in July of that season and claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays. However, Reed shortly thereafter was taken by the Mets on a waiver claim and he remained with the team through the beginning of the 2022 season.

Jake Reed not eligible for postseason with Orioles

Because Reed joined the Orioles after the 8:59 p.m. PT deadline on Aug. 31, he is not eligible for the postseason. The right-hander nonetheless could be a factor for Baltimore over the final month of the regular season as they look to earn an American League Wild Card spot.

The Orioles enter play Monday trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by 2.5 games for the third and final Wild Card spot in the AL.
