The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to make moves on the minor league free agent market.
The Dodgers have reportedly signed two players, infielder Jonathan Arauz and outfielder Lolo Sanchez, to minor league contracts.
In the case of Arauz, his contract will come with an invite to big league spring training. Arauz is 25 years old and has seen time in the major leagues over each of the last four seasons.
Originally signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur out of Panama, Arauz was traded to Houston along with closer Ken Giles in Dec. 2015. The Astros waived him in 2019 and Arauz was claimed by the Boston Red Sox.
Arauz made his major league debut with the Red Sox in 2020. He's also played for the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Mets.
As a minor leaguer, Arauz has a .239 average with 44 home runs, 246 RBIs, 24 stolen bases, and a .683 OPS.
The situation is similar for Sanchez, whose contract also includes a non-roster invitation to 2024 spring training. He has been assigned to the Double-A Tulsa Drillers, according to his MiLB transactions page.
In his minor league career, Sanchez has a .249 average, 40 home runs, 208 RBIs, and 124 stolen bases with a .708 OPS in 1996 at-bats. He was the Pittsburgh Pirates' No. 20 prospect in the 2020 season per MLB Pipeline, but has had a tough time breaking through.
In 87 games last season with the Pirates' Double-A affiliate, Sanchez hit .227 with a .332 on-base percentage and a .320 slugging percentage.
Arauz and Sánchez figure to provide depth at the minor-league levels in 2024, but will have at least a small chance to turn heads in spring training.
