Dodgers SP Trevor Bauer's administrative leave extended through Sept. 10

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Trevor Bauer is inching toward not playing again this year.

It remains to be seen if he'll ever take the bump again for any MLB club.

ESPN's Alden Gonzalez reported Friday that Bauer's paid administrative leave was extended through Sept. 10 by MLB and the MLB Players Association as the 30-year-old continues to face troubling allegations of sexual assault. This is the eighth time the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner has had his leave extended since he was first made ineligible to pitch July 2.

He last started for the Dodgers on June 28.

It was last Friday when the City of Pasadena Police Department turned the case regarding allegations made against Bauer over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. The police investigation lasted several months, so Bauer may not know if he'll face any charges until after the World Series concludes later this fall.

Bauer maintains all sexual encounters with his accuser were "wholly consensual."

Earlier this week, ESPN's Jeff Passan explained why it's unlikely Bauer will pitch in any MLB game again through at least the upcoming postseason.

"If the DA does not make a decision on charges before the end of the season, Bauer almost certainly will remain on administrative leave. If he's charged, MLB would either extend his administrative leave or use the paid-suspension provision in the policy.

"If he's not charged, a suspension will be coming, and even if Bauer appeals, the lack of an immediate stay will prevent him from returning."

Passan added Bauer could be suspended anywhere from one to two years.

It's believed at least some of Bauer's Los Angeles teammates don't want him back with the club regardless of the outcomes of the criminal or MLB investigations.
