The Los Angeles Dodgers starting rotation for the regular season is largely set, and it includes Tony Gonsolin as he looks to build on last year’s All-Star campaign.

Although Gonsolin put together a career-best season, it included a right forearm injury that interrupted his second half. Gonsolin returned in time for the postseason but remained limited during his only start in the National League Division Series.

Gonsolin nonetheless declared he was healthy come October and used the offseason to further prepare his body for the rigors of a season.

However, now the Dodgers are hopeful Gonsolin avoided a lower-body injury. According to Doug Padilla of the Southern California News Group, he may have suffered a left ankle injury during a workout at Camelback Ranch:

The Dodgers have not provided an update on Gonsolin’s status, which could suggest he shook off the incident. The right-hander is listed as the probable starter for Wednesday’s game against the Seattle Mariners.

The Dodgers could easily adjust their pitching plans if Gonsolin is in need of an extra day or two of rest before getting back onto the mound.

He allowed three hits over 2.1 scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels last week.

Tony Gonsolin concerned about MLB pitch clock

Gonsolin’s start at Tempe Diablo Stadium was his first foray with the pitch timer, which came with a period of adjusting.

“I felt really fast at the beginning,” Gonsolin said. “I felt like I was looking at the clock a lot and then later in the inning and the second inning and third, I felt like every time I looked, I had plenty of time. So I tried not to think about it so I could really slow down.

“I don’t like it right now, but this is my first outing so it’s kind of new. It’s just something we’ve got to get over and adapt.”
