With the Milwaukee Brewers willing to trade Corbin Burnes, Willy Adames and any other player from their roster, the Los Angeles Dodgers seemingly line up as an ideal team to work out a deal with.

The Dodgers have a clear need for starting pitching, which Burnes would immediately help fill, and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman has demonstrated a willingness in the past to expand a trade beyond addressing the team’s primary need.

That applies to Adames, who could be a potential solution for the Dodgers at shortstop. Though, Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomes have maintained their confidence in Lux’s ability to play the position in his return from a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee.

According to David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio, the Dodgers have maintained their interest in a potential trade involving Adames:

“The Dodgers also have their eyes on Willy Adames, who has one year left on his contract. Adames and Andrew Friedman have the connection from Tampa Bay. He had a down offensive year, the Dodgers obviously believe that they can get a lot out of him, defensively and offensively.”

The Brewers possibly trading Burnes or Adames would signal a likely rebuild as the team enters a new era in the wake of Craig Counsell leaving to become the new manager of the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee non-tendered Brandon Woodruff rather than go through a final year of salary arbitration with the two-time All-Star and don’t appear to have interest in re-signing him.

Adames is also entering a final year of being eligible for arbitration and is on track to become a free agent after the 2024 season.

Dodgers interest in Willy Adames

The Dodgers previously had reported interest in Adames after the 2022 season when it was believed the Brewers would consider trading him.

The 28-year-old is coming off somewhat of a down year in which he batted just .217/.310/.407 with 29 doubles, two triples, 24 home runs and 80 RBI over 149 games.

Adames’ best season came in 2021, which was split between the Tampa Bay Rays and Brewers as he hit a combined .262/.337/.481 with 32 doubles, 25 home runs and 73 RBI. That remains his career high in doubles and on-base plus slugging percentage (.818).

Adames hit a career-high 31 homers in 2022 and that same year had his most RBI as well with 98.
