Dodgers' Trevor Bauer says he pitched against Padres with one eye closed
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer took training to the next level on Saturday against the San Diego Padres, pitching most of the first inning with one of his eyes closed.
Bauer began the inning by allowing Jurickson Profar to single, Tommy Pham to walk and throwing a wild pitch. The 30-year-old eventually worked out of the jam, getting Austin Nola to pop up and striking out Victor Caratini and Ha-Seong Kim.
Bauer admitted it wasn't the first time he has pitched with one eye closed and also said he does it to challenge himself.
Bauer tossed three innings against the Padres, allowing two hits and striking out three batters.
The reigning National League Cy Young winner signed a three-year, $102 million deal with the Dodgers this offseason. The New York Mets reportedly offered him more money, but he left more dough on the table to return home to California.
