Before today's game against the Chicago Cubs, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo gave an update on a pair of injured pitchers in a pregame update in the media.

Drey Jameson was pulled back from his throwing program. The 25-year-old right-hander suffered a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on July 6th and elected rehab instead of surgery. Lovullo said Jameson spoke up about his arm and there's some tenderness in there. The D-backs had some imaging done on the arm and are currently evaluating next steps. For now, it appears his season is effectively over.

If Jameson needs to undergo Tommy John surgery, he'll need to make a decision over the next couple weeks in order to be fully ready to throw when camp opens up in 2025. Tommy John surgery typically has a 12-15 month timeline for a return to action.

Mark Melancon is throwing at the complex. His velocity is not close to where they expect to it to be. Lovullo attributes that to the long layoff, as the 38-year-old reliever suffered a scapularis strain in March. It's unclear if he'll return to the mound before the regular season ends.
