Chicago Cubs pitcher Codi Heuer underwent surgery on Friday, a surgery that will end his season early for the second straight year.

In addition, left-hander Brandon Hughes had surgery that will keep him out until at least Spring Training and outfield prospect Brennen Davis is starting his recovery from core surgery.

The Chicago Sun-Times was among the publications that reported the surgeries.

Heuer’s surgery was for a fracture in his elbow, which occurred on Tuesday during his appearance with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs.

Heuer was pitching in the eighth inning. As he delivered the pitch, the ball sailed over the head of the batter and Heuer could be seen jumping off the mound in pain.

He left the game shortly after that.

Heuer is making a comeback from Tommy John surgery, which wiped out his 2022 season. The Cubs activated him on May 6 and sent him to Iowa for a rehab assignment. In 15 games he was 0-1 with an 7.82 ERA.

Hughes’ surgery is a distal femoral osteotomy on his left knee and it should relieve the swelling he’s experienced this season. But it will shut him down the rest of this season.

Hughes went 0-3 with a 7.24 ERA with the Cubs.

Davis was once the Cubs’ No. 1 overall prospect, but his stock went down after surgery last June for sciatic nerve pain. This surgery was to his core and it’s not clear how much time he will miss.

Davis was batting .197 with three home runs and 20 RBI for Triple-A Iowa.
