The Los Angeles Angels hired Ron Washington to be their next manager and now he is in the process of filling out his coaching staff.

According to multiple reports, former MLB utility player Ryan Goins is set to join the Angels as their new infield coach. This represents Goins’ first coaching opportunity, who recently announced his retirement as a player.

Chili Davis and Clint Hurdle are also rumored to be joining Washington’s coaching staff, while Torii Hunter reportedly turned down the opportunity to become the Angels first base coach.

In terms of further additions, former Atlanta Braves first base coach Eric Young Sr. is reuniting with Washington as the Angels new third base coach, per Alison Mastrangelo of WSB-TV:

Young and Washington were part of the Braves coaching staff from 2018-2023, and Goins briefly crossed paths with them during his stint with the organization last year. Young was previously a coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2010-2012) and Colorado Rockies (2014-2016) as well.

Prior to his coaching career, Young enjoyed a 15-year run as an MLB player that included stops with the Rockies (1993-1997), Los Angeles Dodgers (1998-1999), Chicago Cubs (2000-2001), Milwaukee Brewers (2002-2003), San Francisco Giants (2003), Texas Rangers (2004; 2006) and San Diego Padres (2005-2006).

Tim Anderson could be target to fill infield need for Angels

As the Angels look to bolster their infield, one player they are said to have strong interest in is former Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson.

Anderson is coming off the worst season of his career but was a two-time All-Star from 2021-2022 and would be an intriguing bounce-back candidate.
