Wait a second, wait a second....

Maybe the Oakland Athletics aren't leaving town after all?

Earlier in April, we heard that the A's were exploring ballpark sites in Las Vegas.

Then, on Tuesday, we heard that there was an agreement in place to buy the land where a ballpark would sit in Las Vegas.

But on Wednesday, ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney gave some hope to fans who want to see the team stay in Oakland, suggesting it's possible this is all just theatre.

Speaking to the 'Brady Farkas Show' on WDEV Radio, Olney said the following:

"We are still in the posturing phase... There are only 28 days left in the legislative session in the state of Nevada. You don't know if they're going to be able to get the funding. My general rule of thumb watching the Oakland ballpark situation is "wait until a shovel is in the ground.' And the rest seems to be eyewash. I do think that this is potentially posturing..."

No one knows exactly how this is going to play out, but to hear Olney present some optimism has to feel good for Athletics' fans. The team has been in Oakland for more than 50 years and has won multiple championships.

In the 2000s, they've been regular playoff contenders and the fans there deserve better than to lose their team without a fight, or any optimism.

On the field, it's been a dreadful season for the A's, who have the worst record in the sport at 8-30. But maybe this will provide some comfort.
