One former Boston Red Sox hurler mightily struggled Thursday afternoon.
The Red Sox took on the rival New York Yankees on Thursday at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Grapefruit League action and remained undefeated thanks to a wild 11-7 win.
Boston entered the sixth inning actually losing 3-2, but the offense erupted at the expense of former Red Sox hurler Tyler Danish. The relief pitcher took the hill for New York and only was able to record one out while allowing six earned runs.
Outfielder Tyler Dearden, first baseman Daniel Palka, and outfielder Narciso Crook all clubbed home runs off of the right-handed hurler to give Boston a 9-3 lead going into the seventh inning.
Danish has been a journeyman throughout his career bouncing around between the minor leagues and MLB but spent the 2022 campaign with the Red Sox. He made 32 appearances for Boston last season and compiled a 3-1 record to go along with a 5.12 ERA in 40 1/3 innings pitched.
The Chicago White Sox drafted Danish in the second round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft and he began his professional career in the club's organization. Danish made his MLB debut in 2016 with Chicago and spent three seasons with the big league club before signing elsewhere in free agency.
The 28-year-old signed with the Yankees this offseason to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training and is looking to catch on with the big league club this spring.
Thursday's outing against his former team may hurt chances to make the Yankees' big league club, but he likely will have plenty more chances before Opening Day to make an impression.
