On Wednesday night, the New York Mets came to an agreement with former New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino.

We knew the deal was for one year, but now we have the full scope of the deal from Jeff Passan of ESPN:

Right-hander Luis Severino and the New York Mets are finalizing a one-year, $13 million contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Severino, 29, will join the Mets and a rotation in significant need of help after spending his eight-year career with the New York Yankees.

Severino struggled this year with a 6.65 ERA but over his previous seven seasons posted a 3.39 ERA in 638 innings. If he thrives, he'll hit free agency again next year, and he can earn up to $2 million in performance bonuses from the Mets.

First on the scene: @feinsand.

It's a good deal for both sides, really. The Mets, in desperate need of starting pitching, get one with a lot of potential at an affordable rate, while Severino gets a chance to rebuild his career.

He made the All-Star team in the American League in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons and looked like one of the best pitchers in the AL, but then, the injuries struck.

Severino made just three appearances in the 2019 season and then missed the entirety of the COVID 2020 season. He made just four appearances in 2021 before coming back for 19 strong appearances in 2022.

Unfortunately, he started 2023 on the injured list for the Yankees and then never got going. He went just 4-8 with that 6.65 ERA, striking out just 79 batters in 89.1 innings.

Lifetime, Severino is 54-37 with a 3.79 ERA. He's still just 29 years old.
