Earlier today, the Baltimore Orioles claimed left-handed pitcher Tucker Davidson off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.
Tucker Davidson came up through the Braves farm system and blossomed into one of the team’s top prospects after being selected in the 19th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut in 2020 and looked like he was on track to becoming a permanent piece of the rotation in 2021 before going down with a shoulder injury that ended his regular season.
However, that wouldn’t be the last Braves fans saw of Tucker Davidson that year. His next appearance came in Game 5 of the World Series at Truist Park, as Brian Snitker turned to him in hopes of finishing the job against the Houston Astros. The Braves jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but unfortunately, the Astros rallied to extend the series. Thankfully, we all know how that one ended.
Davidson was traded the following year to the Angels in the deal that brought over Raisel Iglesias. Iglesias has been mostly brilliant as the Braves closer, but the same can’t be said for Davidson. After a rough stint in Los Angeles, he was designated for assignment this season and claimed by the Royals, where his struggles continued.
Now, Tucker Davidson will get a chance with the Orioles, which isn’t a terrible landing spot. Baltimore had the best record in the American League this season, and they’re desperate for pitching help. Hopefully, Davidson can straighten things out and find a role for himself at the major-league level, whether it be as a starter or a reliever.
