Former Cardinals player shares sweet Tim McCarver story

Former MLB infielder Daniel Descalso shared a sweet anecdote about the late Tim McCarver Thursday night on Twitter.

McCarver died at the age of 81 on Thursday.

Descalso played 10 big-league seasons from 2010 to 2019, the first five of which were spent with the St. Louis Cardinals. Descalso was a member of two Cardinals World Series teams (2011 and 2013), helping the club win it all in 2011, while also playing a role on two teams that made runs to the NLCS in 2012 and 2014.

The 36-year-old is currently a baseball operations assistant with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

McCarver won World Series titles with St. Louis in 1964 and 1967 and made two All-Star teams during his 21-year playing career as well. He then had a long, iconic career as a broadcaster, calling many games for "MLB on FOX" alongside Joe Buck.

Buck and McCarver were both on the call during both of Descalso's runs to the "Fall Classic" with the Cardinals in 2011 and 2013.

McCarver won three Emmy Awards for his work as a broadcaster, received the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting in 2012 and was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2016. He was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2017.
