Former Cubs SS Addison Russell finalizing deal with Korean Baseball Organization team

It looks like the Korean Baseball Organization will be signing another former Major League Baseball star.

Former Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell reportedly is finalizing a deal to play for the Kiwoom Heroes of the KBO, according to ESPN. Russell became a free agent when the Cubs non-tendered him in December.

The 26-year-old was suspended for 40 games near the end of the 2018 season for violating MLB's policies on domestic abuse. Despite the suspension, the Cubs tendered him a contract for 2019, and he sat out 28 games to finish serving his suspension.

While Russell started out his career strong, his OPS fell below .700 in 2018 and 2019 — thus resulting in him being demoted to the minors.

The Heroes currently sit fourth in the KBO with a 24-17 record. Kiwoom currently has a few former MLB players on their roster, including Eric Jokisch, Jake Brigham and Taylor Motter. So, it appears Russell won't feel so out of place with a couple of former MLB players to help him get used to his surroundings in Korea.
