The Milwaukee Brewers have already undergone some major changes this offseason, and a blockbuster trade could also be in their future.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Wednesday that rival teams have been given the impression there is a “decent chance” the Brewers will trade starting pitcher Corbin Burnes this winter.

Burnes posted a 10-8 record with a 3.39 ERA in 32 starts last season. He has been one of Milwaukee’s best pitchers for several years now and was named an All-Star in each of the last three seasons. The right-hander won the NL Cy Young Award in 2021.

A report last month claimed the Brewers are flirting with the idea of a total rebuild and are willing to trade anyone on their roster. The 29-year-old Burnes is one of Milwaukee’s most valuable assets.

The Brewers could also trade another one of their top starting pitchers, depending on how the market develops in the coming weeks.

Manager Craig Counsell made a stunning decision last month to leave the Brewers for a division rival. Though Milwaukee has made the playoffs in five of the last six seasons, it seems like Counsell knew a rebuild was coming and did not want to stick around for it.
